The following are examples of how this philosophy has been developed and nurtured to ensure players perform without fear.

Of course, there are many opinions out there as to how the game should be played, but, of course, we view this as extremely healthy! However, here at Calmsoccer, we do offer something completely different - because we believe that far more progress can be made in developing young players, 'if' sometimes, there is more patience and time given to developing the most complex skills we see exhibited at the highest level. We also believe that, due to the many pressures in football, there also has to be an unconditional belief that this is the way to go. We believe in the process - it's more fun!

Soaked but happy!!

MACCLESFIELD Town have signed up a record number of players from the centre of excellence. Ten players from the Silkmen's Under-16s side have become 1st year scholars at the Moss Rose. Chris Dykes, Kristian Dennis, Danny White, Ben Hunt, Shaun Brisley, James Rothel, Danny Egan, Chris Hirst, Matt Pearson and Jordan Walker have all graduated to the youth team, while Christian Millar has joined after being released by Stoke City. The most the Cheshire club have ever taken on in the past is six - and one year only two players made the grade."This is the largest number of scholars to be signed in one year from the centre of excellence since it started," said centre of excellence manager Mick Holgate. "We are all very pleased for them and hope that they go on to fulfil their full potential."

Above....Re the Head Coach's time at Manchester City - just take a look at the photo and see who you think has made it to the highest level? Well, the 4 smallest boys on the front row are currently playing professional football - 2 of them in the Premiership with Swansea! Well done to them all - but what does this show? Rhys Taylor and Curtis Obeng were both released and now look at them! Certainly also helps to have a manager who 'doesn't' panic when mistakes are made and who has an unconditional belief in telling his players to be comfortable on the ball ... defenders as well as forwards!

Head Coach Testimonial: ''My son was lucky enough to have Steve as his coach at Macclesfield Town while he was in the under 16 squad. Steve's attention to detail is second to none. All the coaching sessions were varied, boredom and repetition were never issues and all the lads improved their techniques and overall play under his guidance. Steve doesn't use vocal aggression or bullying to achieve success, he talks to his players in a calm measured way that allows them to understand and take on board his instructions. The players were given regular updates regarding their progress and areas that they might need to do some work. His players are encouraged to play in the "blue zone" in other words to play in a calm, confident manner where comfort on the ball is the primary factor. All the players knew what was expected of them and could not wait for match day to come around to put into practice what they had been working on during the week. Steve's coaching of that Under 16 team produced an unprecedented total of 10 players who were offered apprenticeships and went onto represent the Youth Team who reached the 4th Round of the FA Youth Cup narrowly losing 2-1 to Sunderland at the Stadium of Light. As a parent I always felt reassured that my son was in capable hands. I cannot recommend Steve highly enough.'' Clive Rothel
